MILWAUKEE (AP) — Wade Miley’s baffling off-speed stuff was just part of a frustrating night for the Chicago Cubs. The left-hander pitched six stingy innings http://www.rangersfanproshop.com/authentic-nomar-mazara-jersey , Lorenzo Cain reached base five times and the Milwaukee Brewers romped past the Cubs 11-1 on Tuesday to climb within three games of the NL Central leaders.Miley (3-2) allowed one run and three hits, struck out five and walked none as Milwaukee won for the fifth time in the last six meetings with its division rival. The second-place Brewers maintained a 1½-game lead over St. Louis for the top NL wild card.“I just feel now I can throw strikes,” said Miley, who missed 57 games this season with a right oblique injury. “I guess I trust my pitches and trust my catcher, and the defense is playing great.“I just threw 78 cutters and three fastballs, so it’s a 180 (from last season).”Mike Montgomery (4-5) struggled with his control for four innings, and the Brewers had their way with a succession of Cubs relievers.Cain had four walks and a double from the leadoff spot, setting the tone for Milwaukee’s offense. Christian Yelich walked and added a two-run double in the seventh, reaching base for the 21st straight game — the longest active streak in the National League. The first-place Cubs were hurt by poor defense and committed two errors. First baseman Anthony Rizzo left the game with a bruised right foot but said he was OK and would play Wednesday in the series finale. The Brewers have four games left with the Cubs Ferguson Jenkins Jersey , including three at Wrigley Field next week, and have their sights set on winning the division.“This is how we had to start it,” manager Craig Counsell said. “So far, so good. Another series win and try to get a sweep tomorrow.”Milwaukee has won 11 of its last 15 games, and Miley said a division title is on the Brewers’ minds.“Why wouldn’t we be?” he explained. “We’ve still got 25 games to go, 23 games to go. Why not? I don’t think you quit thinking about it until you can’t think about it no more.”Singles by Hernan Perez and Travis Shaw and a sacrifice fly by Erik Kratz gave the Brewers a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. Cubs second baseman Javier Baez couldn’t catch Shaw’s hot shot, a play that was initially ruled an error but was later changed to a hit by the official scorer.Cain’s leadoff double in the fifth off reliever Brandon Kintzler set up the Brewers’ third run, delivered on a sacrifice fly by Jesus Aguilar.Ragged defensive play by the Cubs allowed the Brewers to extend their lead to 6-1 in the sixth. A routine grounder was booted by shortstop Addison Russell, setting up the rally against left-hander Jorge De La Rosa. One run scored on an error by first baseman Victor Caratini http://www.rangersfanproshop.com/authentic-jason-grilli-jersey , another on a passed ball by catcher Willson Contreras and the third on a hit batter. The Brewers scored three more in the seventh and two in the eighth. Milwaukee hit three sacrifice flies in the game. Orlando Arcia had three hits and scored three times.“We did not pitch well at all after we got by Montgomery,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. “They didn’t really beat us up offensively; we just kind of self-destructed.”TRAINER’S ROOMCubs: Rizzo exited in the sixth after fouling a ball off his foot in the third. X-rays were negative. … Veteran LHP Jaime Garcia, signed Friday after being released by Toronto, joined the Cubs. They selected his contract from Triple-A Iowa and recalled outfielder Mark Zagunis, who was placed on the 60-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.Brewers: LHP Gio Gonzalez, acquired from Washington in a trade Friday, will start Saturday vs. San Francisco. Junior Guerra will go to the bullpen, Counsell said.THE RIVALRYNew Cubs pitcher Cole Hamels isn’t sure the Chicago-Milwaukee rivalry is a full-blown feud on the level of Cubs-Cardinals or Yankees-Red Sox. He said as much after the Brewers’ 4-3 comeback victory on Monday.Hamels, the Cubs starter that day Ryan Rua Jersey , said, “When you have the majority of Cubs fans in the stands, I don’t know if that’s a rivalry.”But the fans flocking to Miller Park this week — for both teams — may think differently.“I look at it like we are spending way too much time trying to classify rivalries,” Counsell said. “Enjoy the baseball games, man.”The Cubs hold an 81-77 lead in games at Miller Park since 2001 and a 178-167 edge since the Brewers joined the National League in 1998.“I think that’s always going to be part of this series when you play up here; you’re always going to get a lot of Cubs fans,” Maddon said. “(A huge rivalry is) something that is achieved over time. Give it time and it may eventually show up that way here.”UP NEXTCubs: LHP Jose Quintana (11-9, 4.21 ERA) allowed five runs over five innings in his last start against Milwaukee, a 7-0 Brewers victory at Wrigley Field on Aug. 14. Prior to that he had given up just five runs in 49 innings vs. the Brewers. Quintana is 3-1 with a 1.32 ERA in five career starts at Miller Park.Brewers: RHP Jhoulys Chacin (14-5, 3.53 ERA) will make his 30th start of the season. He is coming off a 4-1 victory over Washington on Friday. Chacin is 2-0 in two scoreless starts and 13 innings pitched against the Cubs this season. NEW YORK (AP) — Los Angeles outfielder Yasiel Puig has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed fine for fighting and inciting a bench-clearing incident against San Francisco.Major League Baseball announced the sanctions Thursday Drew Robinson Jersey , two days after the Cuban player took a swing at Giants catch Nick Hundley in the seventh inning of the Dodgers‘ 2-1 home loss. Hundley also was fined.Barring an appeal, Puig is scheduled to begin the suspension Friday at Seattle. The fracas started when Puig swatted his bat in frustration after fouling off a pitch from Tony Watson, and Hundley said something to the slugger while still in his crouch. Puig turned around and walked toward Hundley, the catcher stood up, and they argued face to face before Puig shoved Hundley twice. That brought players out of the benches and bullpens. Puig and Hundley were momentarily separated, but Puig ducked around teammates, coaches and manager Dave Roberts before reaching back to hit Hundley. He smacked Hundley with an open hand across the front of his catcher’s mask. Dodgers coach George Lombard was trying to push Hundley away when Puig took his swing. Lombard and Hundley briefly ended up on the grass. After the players were separated for good, the umpires ejected Puig and Hundley.Puig also got into a skirmish with Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner in 2014.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Max Kepler saw a lot of pitches Friday night http://www.bravesfanproshop.com/authentic-dale-murphy-jersey , and it paid off Saturday night.Kepler had three hits, including a two-run homer that put Minnesota ahead to stay, and Jose Berrios threw seven sharp innings to help the Twins to an 8-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals.Kepler went 3 for 3 with a walk and scored twice. He walked three times in Minnesota’s 6-4 victory in the series opener.“The more pitches you see in an at-bat, the better you start to see the ball with time, and I think we’re doing that pretty well as a team right now,” he said. “I hit some line drives and ground balls that some nights can be caught. Today, luckily they find holes.”Eddie Rosario and Logan Morrison also homered as the Twins won their second straight against the Royals.“We don’t want guys to try to step up and be supermen,” manager Paul Molitor said of his offense coming alive. “It’s just understand that you go out there and bring what you can bring.”Berrios (11-8) retired his first six batters, but had trouble throwing strikes in his middle innings and allowed the Royals to take a 2-1 lead after walking the bases loaded in the third. The All-Star right-hander settled down and remained unbeaten against AL Central opponents this season.“Seven innings didn’t look very likely after he gave up those couple, but he got it done,” Molitor said. “And thankfully, the bats came alive.”The Twins regained the lead on Kepler’s homer off Burch Smith (1-3) in the fourth. Rosario added a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and Logan Forsythe and Bobby Wilson each drove in a run in the sixth.“I still felt pretty good,” Smith said. “They just capitalized on mistakes. I didn’t make a pitch, and they hit it. It’s a good-hitting team.Morrison added his 15th homer in seventh, a towering two-run shot off Glenn Sparkman that traveled an estimated 442 feet before landing in the right-field concourse.SMITH’S STARTSmith was charged with a season-high six runs in five-plus innings in his fifth start of the year. Manager Ned Yost still said Smith threw the ball well.“He started laboring in the sixth inning after about the 80-pitch mark, 85-pitch mark. Up until that point, I thought he did a good job of keeping us in the game and throwing strikes,” Yost said.DRAKE THE JOURNEYMANMinnesota’s Addison Reed and Oliver Drake combined for two innings of scoreless relief. Drake Freddie Freeman Jersey , claimed off waivers from Toronto on Friday, set a major league record by pitching for his fifth team this season. He arrived at the ballpark on Saturday afternoon and said he appreciated the chance to get right to work.“I think my catch partner though the whole time has been a fence post back home, so it’s just nice to get back out there playing baseball, throwing to hitters, competing,” Drake said. And the record?“It’s definitely cool having all the jerseys,” he said smiling. “That’s going to be something that looking back it’s going to be a cool collection. I don’t know if this is something I’ll brag about, but it’ll definitely be a neat story.”TRAINER’S ROOMTwins: Molitor said RHP Aaron Slegers (shoulder) would begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester on Saturday night. … RHP Michael Pineda is scheduled to begin his recovery from Tommy John surgery when he starts his rehab assignment with the Florida Gulf Coast on Monday.JOHAN’S CALLThe Twins inducted former ace Johan Santana into the franchise’s hall of fame in a pregame ceremony. Santana, who won two AL Cy Young Awards during his eight seasons in Minnesota, became the 31st member of the Twins Hall of Fame. For five seasons, from 2003-07, he led the AL in wins (82), strikeouts (1,152), ERA (2.92) and opponent batting average (.212).Surrounded by family and former teammates, Santana was introduced by former teammate Torii Hunter before being presented with a Twins blazer by Rod Carew.“Go chase your dreams, work hard, be passionate about what you do. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Tyler Glasnow finally has a win to go with the label of the pitcher Tampa Bay got in the trade for former ace Chris Archer.Glasnow allowed two infield singles in six innings for the hard-throwing right-hander’s first American League win, 3-0 over the Texas Rangers on Monday night.“Let’s just hope I get a bunch more,” said Glasnow, who was winless in eight starts for the Rays, including three straight losses coming into Texas. “A win is irrelevant I’d say, but it’s good to get the first win for sure.”Ji-Man Choi connected for his 10th homer , a solo shot, and drove in two runs to help the Rays improve to a major league-best 21-5 since Aug. 19. Tampa Bay pulled to 6 1/2 games behind idle Oakland for the second American League wild-card spot.Isiah Kiner-Falefa barely beat out a chopper to shortstop for the first Texas hit with two outs in the fifth. Nomar Mazara reached in the sixth on a high bouncer in front of the mound that was first ruled an error by Glasnow.“It’s a hit, obviously,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “If it got down to the wire, you’d probably want to say that it would be nicer if it was a hard-hit ball. But look, if we’re on the other side of that, we’d take any kind of a hit.”Adam Kolarek, Jose Alvarado and Sergio Romo pitched a hitless inning apiece to wrap up the second two-hit shutout of the Rangers in a week. Eight Los Angeles Angels pitchers pulled the trick on Texas last Tuesday. Romo got his 22nd save in 29 chances. It was the fourth big league win in 26 starts over two seasons for Glasnow (2-6). The 25-year-old, who came from Pittsburgh at the trading deadline, struck out six http://www.bravesfanproshop.com/authentic-bob-uecker-jersey , walked two and hit a batter while hitting 99 mph with his fastball twice.“That’s a power right-handed arm,” said Texas manager Jeff Banister, who was around Glasnow before coming to the Rangers from the Pirates for the 2015 season. “He threw just enough balls out of the strike zone and enough in at the knees, 97, 98, 99, with the swing-and-miss breaking ball made it uncomfortable for our guys.”Leading 2-0 with two on in the sixth, Glasnow finished his outing by getting Adrian Beltre on a flyout. Glasgow got some help the batter before allowing his first hit when center fielder Kevin Kiermaier made a leaping catch on a liner by Ronald Guzman.ANOTHER TOUGH-LUCK LOSSAdrian Sampson (0-2) lost his second straight start following one relief appearance since the last-place Rangers called him up from the minors. The right-hander allowed six hits and two runs in 5 2/3 innings.Sampson was the loser in last week’s two-hitter. He gave up two hits and one run in five innings in the Angels’ 1-0 win.“I just have my other pitchers working right now,” Sampson said. “I’ve always been a fastball guy. I’ve been able to throw my other pitches for strikes when I have to and it’s keeping them off balance. It’s been good for the first two starts.”TRIPLE-A CHANGE FOR RANGERSRound Rock is ending an eight-year run as the Triple-A affiliate of the Rangers. Nashville and San Antonio, which is moving up from Double-A next year, are the leading candidates to replace Round Rock. He went 2 for 2 with two walks and three RBIs to keep Boston on a roll. The Red Sox have won nine of 10 to improve their big league-best record to 84-35. The split doubleheader was caused by a rainout on July 25; before the bad weather came that night, Boston led 5-0 in the second inning.Boston manager Alex Cora used a collection of relievers to handle the pitching in the second game, beginning with Hector Velazquez Joey Gallo Jersey , including Joe Kelly (4-0) and concluding with Craig Kimbrel, who worked the ninth for his 34th save.It was a struggle until Martinez sent a 1-0 pitch into the left-field seats.“In the eighth, we were worried about how we were going to put together these 27, 30 outs, whatever we needed to win,” Cora said. “Then he put a great at-bat together.” Joey Rickard and Trey Mancini homered for the Orioles, who will try to avoid a four-game sweep on Sunday. With a dozen shutouts, the Red Sox are tied with the Cubs, Indians and Pirates for the major league lead. After the Red Sox won 19-12 on Friday night, both teams were quiet offensively until Boston broke through with a flourish against rookie Jimmy Yacabonis (0-1) in the fifth inning.Xander Bogaerts led off with a single and Eduardo Nunez hit a 3-0 pitch inside the left-field foul pole for a home run. SAN JOSE Anders Bjork Jersey , Calif. (AP) Sergei Bobrovsky and Artemi Panarin made sure the Columbus Blue Jackets didn’t blow another lead and got to head home from the California swing on a winning note.Artemi Panarin scored two goals, including an empty-netter to seal the win, and Bobrovsky made 34 saves to thwart a comeback attempt by San Jose as the Blue Jackets beat the Sharks 4-2 on Sunday night.”We found a way to get it done,” captain Nick Foligno said. ”That’s what we need to do this time of year. I hope guys feel good about themselves that they can win these tight ones and it has to carry on to the next 16 games.”Foligno and Sonny Milano got Columbus started with first-period goals to help the Blue Jackets salvage the final game of their three-game trip to remain a point ahead of Florida for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Blue Jackets had scored first in Los Angeles and Anaheim to start this trip before losing both games. They nearly blew a 3-0 lead against the Sharks but Bobrovsky made a sliding save on a deflection by Joe Pavelski to keep it 3-2 and Panarin scored his 20th goal into the empty net to seal the win.”They’re a tough team because they’re so many deflections around the goal,” coach John Tortorella said. ”The save Bob makes on Joe Pavelski. That’s a set play with him and (Brent) Burns. They’ve played together for so long. They’re tough to stop.”Evander Kane scored his first goal since joining the Sharks and Joonas Donskoi also scored but San Jose was unable to erase a three-goal deficit.Martin Jones allowed three goals on 11 shots before being pulled early in the second period and the Sharks went a 12th straight game without a power-play goal, extending their drought to 28 chances.”Sometimes you have to give the goalie on the other team some credit,” Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said. ”We generated some really quality chances on the power play and sometimes we missed the net and he made some really good saves.”The Sharks fell behind 3-0 early in the second when Panarin deflected Ian Cole’s point shot into the net to end Jones’ night. The Blue Jackets limited San Jose’s chances after that as they kept control of the game until a broken play late in the second gave the Sharks life.Kane’s pass was deflected right to Dylan DeMelo at the point. NASHVILLE Nate Thompson Jersey , Tenn. (AP) Ryan Hartman got a bit nervous with the puck so close to the empty net after a shot by P.K. But the Avalanche couldn’t get another puck past goalie Pekka Rinne.”I knew he made a shot toward the net, and I just wanted to be there in case he missed the net to beat out the icing,” Hartman said. ”Sometimes those pucks don’t bounce far enough to the front of the net, luckily it did. Those are the ones you get nervous about, the ones that are laying right there. You just want to make sure you put it in.”The Presidents’ Trophy winners gave up a goal on Colorado’s first shot for a second straight game. Yet the Predators rallied again to take their first 2-0 lead when starting a best-of-seven series in their own building.”It was nice to start here for sure in front of our fans, and it was nice to get the job done,” Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said. ”We did what we’re supposed to do. The corps thinned when Tyson Barrie was hit in the face by a puck that deflected off goalie Jonathan Bernier’s stick, but he returned later in the period.Fiala tied it with 3 seconds left on Nashville’s first power play a minute into the second period. Fiala beat Bernier with a snap shot from the inside edge of the left circle, and that seemed to get the Predators going. The Predators kept Colorado from taking a shot until Nathan MacKinnon put one on net at 9:48, and Rinne smothered that.Arvidsson gave the Predators a 2-1 lead, skating up the right side and blasted a slap shot that went under Bernier’s right arm for an unassisted goal. That comes with not having the season that we want. So we just kind of have to sit back and wait and see, and be professional.”Okposo and Benoit Pouliot scored on consecutive shots in the first period in a game the Sabres never trailed. Evan Rodrigues and Marco Scandella also scored Tanner Pearson Jersey , and Chad Johnson stopped 34 shots for the Sabres, who snapped an 0-5-2 home skid against the Bruins. Buffalo had not defeated Boston at home since a 5-4 overtime win Feb. 26, 2014.The Bruins, coming off a 4-3 loss at Toronto a night earlier, started flat while closing a five-game road swing on a day that began with them acquiring Nash in a multiplayer trade with the New York Rangers. Boston gave up three players, including forward Ryan Spooner and prospect defenseman Ryan Lindgren, and two draft picks, including its first-round selection this year.Patrice Bergeron refused to use the road trip or the trade as reasons for the Bruins losing consecutive games for the first time since going 0-1-1 on Dec. 14-16.”There was only one new guy today,” Bergeron said. ”We should know the system. We should know where to be and it wasn’t there.”Anton Khudobin was not sharp in goal. He allowed four goals on 24 shots, including being beaten through the legs on Scandella’s goal from the right boards that put Buffalo up 4-1 in the opening minutes of the third period. The turning point came in the opening minutes of the second period after Boston’s Charlie McAvoy scored on a delayed penalty to cut Buffalo’s lead to 2-1.Some four minutes later, Buffalo’s Sam Reinhart outworked Riley Nash and Danton Heinen in forcing a turnover deep in the Bruins zone. Reinhart then fed Rodrigues, who scored on a one-timer from the right circle.”When you’re 2-1 and you’re making your push, it’s a bad time to make that mistake, especially at the tail end of a road trip Womens Tobias Rieder Jersey ,” Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. ”I think we looked slow today.”Cassidy at least liked what he saw from Nash.”He did as advertised to me,” Cassidy said. ”He’ll be a welcome addition for us. I know he didn’t see the best Boston Bruins team.”The 33-year-old Nash was credited with 17:27 of ice time while playing on the Bruins’ second line, centered by David Krejci, and earning a spot on the top power-play unit. He finished with five shots, which didn’t include a hard snapshot from the right circle which he banked off the far post on a 3-on-2 rush midway through the second period.Nash said he felt fresh in playing his first game since the Rangers played Philadelphia on Feb. 18. He was a healthy scratch during New York’s previous two games because the Rangers didn’t want to risk the possibility of Nash being hurt before he was dealt.”I had my legs. It was my first game in a week so I was a bit nervous,” Nash said. ”It’s definitely been a couple of strange days not being able to play. But that’s behind us and I’m happy to be a Bruin.”The Bruins squandered an opportunity to jump into second place in the Atlantic Division standings, a point ahead of the idle Maple Leafs.NOTES: Kane sat for the second consecutive game to avoid the possibility of being hurt before he’s expected to be traded by Monday. … Bergeron played despite arriving at the arena wearing a protective boot on his right foot after he was hurt blocking a shot at Toronto on Saturday. … The Bruins also signed Brian Gionta to a one-year $700,000 contract after was the United States Olympic team captain at the Pyeongchang Winter Games. DENVER (AP) Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche leaned on their speed to get off to another flying start. This time Darren Helm Jersey , it held up.MacKinnon scored twice, including one as part of a three-goal first period and another to chase Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne from the game, and the Avalanche beat the Predators 5-3 in Game 3 on Monday night to pull to 2-1 in the first-round series.Blake Comeau and Gabriel Bourque also scored in a furious opening period that revved up a pom-pom waving capacity crowd. Gabriel Landeskog was credited with an empty-net goal for the Avalanche, who snapped a 12-game skid against the Predators.”Our guys were energized,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said. ”We were on our toes and the aggressors early in that game and it paid off for us.”Game 4 is Wednesday in Denver. For a third straight game in the series, Colorado scored first. But the Avs were able to make it stand in this one. MacKinnon and his teammates have been a different bunch at home this year. Their 28 home wins in the regular season was tied for the most in franchise history with the 2000-01 squad that hoisted the Stanley Cup.”They gained a lot of momentum, used their atmosphere to their advantage and we weren’t able to respond in that first period,” Predators forward Ryan Johansen said. ”That can’t happen.”MacKinnon’s goal at 4:25 of the second period gave Colorado a 4-0 lead and prompted the Predators to pull Rinne in favor of backup Juuse Saros . Rinne allowed four goals on 15 shots.”We weren’t very good in front of him,” Predators coach Peter Laviolette said. ”I didn’t think we were giving him the support he needed.”Laviolette wasn’t in a mood to elaborate on what exactly went wrong.”It wasn’t good,” Laviolette said of the first period.Any particular reason?”We didn’t play very well,” he said. One thing was clear: MacKinnon was as fast as ever on home ice. He led the league in home scoring in the regular season with 67 points.”He thrives on the energy in the building,” Bednar said. ”He’s just so explosive at home. He’s dangerous every time he touches the puck at home.”Jonathan Bernier stopped 29 shots on a night when the Avalanche finished 0 for 5 on the power play. Johansen had a second-period goal and Colton Sissons scored another in the third to make it 4-2. Saros was pulled for an extra skater with around 2:20 left and, moments later, Landeskog was credited with a goal after being dragged down on a breakaway. A sliding Landeskog was trying to get the puck over to MacKinnon for the hat trick. It’s about the only thing that didn’t work out for Colorado.”We proved to ourselves that we can get a win,” MacKinnon said. ”Hopefully it just snowballs from here.”Nashville got on the board midway through the second after Colorado was whistled for two penalties on a play, giving the Predators a 5-on-3 advantage. Johansen knocked in a rebound to make it 4-1, but Colorado quelled the other portion of the power play.Late in the second, P.K. Subban and MacKinnon got tangled up near the corner. It led to some pushing and shoving with both getting holding penalties.Simply playoff hockey.”Anytime you play the same team over and over and over again you start to really dislike each other,” said Austin Watson, who added a late goal. ”It’s good battles, good intensity out there and it’s fun hockey.”It didn’t take long for Colorado to get on the board with Comeau scoring 1:50 into the game and on the team’s second shot. The Avs beat Rinne on their opening shot in each of the first two games.Shortly after Bourque tipped in Patrik Nemeth’s shot, MacKinnon scored with 1:53 remaining in the first when he took a pass from Landeskog, used a burst of speed to get free and beat Rinne with a wrist shot. The last time the Avalanche played at the Pepsi Center it was also desperation time. They discussed the coming season and setting the tone in training camp for a team getting younger and undergoing a roster overhaul. There were bumps in the road, but the end result has seen a reinvigorated Ovechkin playing an instrumental role in getting Washington within reach of its first Stanley Cup.”You don’t want to be a one-trick pony in this league http://www.redwingsshoponline.com/authentic-dylan-larkin-jersey ,” Trotz said. ”The league keeps changing on you.”Ovechkin, whose Capitals faced the expansion Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 of the final Monday night, scored 49 times this season after just 33 goals in 2016-17.”The one thing that Alex does better than anybody, maybe in the history of the game, is score goals,” Trotz said. ”He has fantastic release. He plays a physical game for a pure-skill guy. There’s so many things that he’s done for the game. But we talked about finding other ways to be effective.”The 32-year-old Ovechkin has done just that in pretty much every facet of his game.”I try to do my best in the regular year, in the playoffs,” he said. ”Of course, in the playoffs, you don’t have tomorrow.”Ovechkin has won the Richard Trophy seven times as the top goal scorer. He has 607 goals in 1,003 career regular-season games, 19th on the career list. Another 49 next season would tie him with Brendan Shanahan for 13th.”He has that ability to see past the block, see past the goalie,” Trotz said. ”Some of the better goal scorers in this league don’t see goalies, they just see empty spots. Guys that aren’t goal scorers, they see the goalie.”Trotz sees a certain ease in Ovechkin that wasn’t there when the Capitals were having great regular seasons only to fall well short in the playoffs.”He’s very comfortable within our group,” Trotz said. ”And he’s very comfortable pushing forward and not worrying about anything else.”That comfort was on display Sunday when he was asked about the impact his first trip to the Stanley Cup final is having in Russia.”Vladimir Putin called me and wished me luck,” Ovechkin said before pausing. ”No it’s (a) joke.”Until now, Ovechkin was criticized for the Capitals’ postseason failures. Washington had never moved beyond the second round during his career until this spring surge, with ousters by the Pittsburgh Penguins the last two years especially difficult. He had 46 goals in 97 career playoff games before adding 12 more on this current playoff run. But despite an experienced roster and plenty of blame to go around, the finger-pointing was often aimed at Ovechkin.”Being the captain and the highest-paid player, I think he got a lot of unfair criticism,” said Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik, who has played with and against Ovechkin. ”That comes with the territory. I think he understands that, but it was really good to see him get by the second round.”I don’t think he necessarily did that much different. I think we just played better as a team.”

Hall, who had two assists, has recorded points in his last 26 appearances dating to Jan. 2. He missed three games before the All-Star break with a thumb injury during that span.”It’s cool. It seems like everything is kind of bouncing the right way when I’m out there, especially on the power play lately,” Hall said. ”So it’s great to chip in, great to contribute, and I’m out there to get points, score goals and play well that way, so I want to keep it going. At the end of the day, I just want to be on a team that gets into the playoffs.”Stefan Noesen, Blake Coleman, Patrick Maroon and Brian Boyle also scored for the Devils. Keith Kinkaid made 29 saves as New Jersey solidified its grip on the first wild-card slot in the Eastern Conference.Jacob de la Rose scored twice for the Canadiens, who had picked up at least one point in their previous seven games (3-0-4). Brendan Gallagher and Byron Froese had the other goals. The Devils dominated the opening period, taking a 4-0 lead while outshooting the Canadiens 17-5.Noesen got the Devils rolling, deflecting Will Butcher’s point shot past Charlie Lindgren at 8:25. New Jersey then broke it open with three goals in a span of 3:15 late in the period.Butcher, back on ice after a brief locker-room visit for medical attention after suffering a facial cut, played a hand in New Jersey’s second tally with 3:27 remaining in the period.Lindgren stopped Butcher’s initial shot Auston Matthews Jersey , only to have Coleman steer home the rebound.Zajac polished off the first period with his tallies. Kyle Palmieri fired a shot from the left circle that Zajac tipped in with 1:52 left. Hall got the point that extended the streak with 12 seconds remaining when Zajac slammed home his rebound.”He’s been on a mission and he’s been our best player all year,” Zajac said of Hall. ”He’s brought momentum over these last 26 games for us, and he’s grown as a leader. It’s great to see.”Gallagher cut the Devils’ lead to 4-1 midway through the second period.Maroon scored his first goal as a Devil about a minute later. He has points in all four games since coming to New Jersey in a trade with Edmonton. It was New Jersey’s third power-play goal of the game with Hall assisting.”In the four games I’ve played here, he’s been by far one of our best players, and that’s exciting to see, especially in meaningful games like this,” Maroon said of Hall. ”Big time players step up.”Boyle made it 6-1 later in the period with his first goal in 24 games.Montreal scored the final three goals of the contest to make the final outcome more respectable.”The thing that I’ll take out of this game in a positive way is the fact that we got better as the game went on,” Canadiens coach Claude Julien said. ”We’re a young team and the guys showed character by trying to get themselves back into it. That’s a character check. It would have been easy to say, `This is not our night.”’Montreal got a goal from de la Rose with 13.8 seconds remaining to close out the second period with a four-goal deficit.De la Rose tallied again in the third, trimming New Jersey’s lead to 6-3 with 5:20 remaining. In his low-key way Denzelle Good Jersey , Ross Stripling thinks of himself as ”an unknown guy having a random good year.”

Dodgers slugger Matt Kemp, third among National League outfielders in All-Star balloting, hopes he can take his 28-year-old teammate with him to the Midsummer Classic.

”He needs to be in there,” Kemp said. ”That boy is pitching his butt off. He’s been a big part of our success.”

Stripling tossed four-hit ball over 6 1/3 innings, Kemp and Enrique Hernandez went deep to give the Dodgers a major league-leading 32 homers this month, and Los Angeles beat the rival San Francisco Giants 3-2 on Friday night for their season high-tying fourth straight win.

The Dodgers stumbled through the first two months, losing six of their first 10 matchups with the Giants.

What a difference June has made. They are 10-2 this month and trail NL West-leading Arizona by 2 1/2 games.

”We’ve been playing the way we expect to play,” Kemp said.

Stripling (6-1) extended his career-best winning streak to six games and is 4-0 at home this season. The right-hander gave up a two-run, opposite-field homer to Pablo Sandoval and had six strikeouts with no walks.

”He threw a lot of strikes. He dominated,” Sandoval said.

Stripling was a reliever in April but now is one of the Dodgers’ most consistent starters with Clayton Kershaw, Rich Hill and Walker Buehler on the disabled list.

”I knew I wanted to be a starter and I felt I could do it Youth Le'Veon Bell Jersey ,” Stripling said.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts’ confidence in Stripling has been rewarded.

”He’s throwing the heck out of it,” Roberts said. ”Executing pitches and trying to dissect hitters, this is who he is.”

After giving up a leadoff double to Joe Panik, Stripling retired his next 12 batters. Sandoval singled leading off the sixth before Stripling retired another six consecutive hitters.

”They played 16 innings in Miami yesterday, so that helps,” said Stripling, who spent his off day watching the Giants win before flying west. ”You’re always going to go out there and attack knowing they’re tired. Maybe they don’t have that much fight.”

Kenley Jansen retired the side in the ninth for his 16th save.

The Giants trailed 3-2 in the seventh after Sandoval’s shot chased Stripling. The Dodgers’ bullpen then retired San Francisco’s final eight batters in sending the Giants to a 17th loss in their last 23 road games.

”We got back in the game on him but we couldn’t do much as far as putting pressure on him,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

Kemp homered on the first pitch from Derek Holland (4-7) in the fourth. Yasmani Grandal was safe at third on an error by center fielder Austin Jackson and he scored on Yasiel Puig’s double to deep right-center for a 2-0 lead.

Hernandez homered into the left-field pavilion in the first.

The Dodgers’ 88 homers this season are tops in the National League.

Holland gave up three runs – two earned – in five innings. He struck out seven and walked two.

Earlier in the day, Kemp was suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for his involvement in a scuffle with Texas Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos on Wednesday. Kemp appealed the punishment, so he’s allowed to play until the process is completed.

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Golden State Warriors hope to have Stephen Curry back in the lineup Saturday night when the defending NBA champions open their Western Conference semifinal playoff series against the surprising New Orleans Pelicans.

The former two-time Most Valuable Player practiced with his teammates Thursday and Friday but noted afterward a final decision on whether he plays for the first time since March 23 rests in the hands of Golden State’s medical staff after the Game 1 warmups.

“I’m getting there for sure,” Curry claimed Friday. “I’ve done a lot in the last two weeks, especially with my feet, getting back to movements that I may do in a game. My knee feels pretty good. I don’t have any pain.”

Curry, who suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee in a collision with teammate JaVale McGee in a game against Atlanta, missed the most recent game against the Pelicans on April 3.

New Orleans won that game 126-120 to salvage one win in the four-game season series.

That win was one of just two the Pelicans have managed against the Warriors in their last 28 meetings, including Golden State’s first-round sweep in 2015 en route to their first of two titles in the last three seasons.

What the Warriors saw earlier this month, however Womens Luke Kunin Jersey , was impressive, as the new-look Pelicans, without injured center DeMarcus Cousins but with newcomer Nikola Mirotic, were firing on all cylinders on Golden State’s home court.

Mirotic hit six 3-pointers on a 28-point night, Jrue Holiday chipped in with 25 points, and both Anthony Davis (34 points, 12 rebounds) and Rajon Rondo (12 points, 17 assists) posted double-doubles in the offensive explosion.

The sixth-seeded Pelicans stunned Portland with similar balance in the first round, with Davis (33.0 points, 12.0 rebounds) and Rondo (11.3 points, 13.3 assists) both averaging double-doubles Authentic Nail Yakupov Jersey , and Holiday (27.8 points) and Mirotic (18.3) combined for 46.1 points.

But that was against the third-seeded Portland Trail Blazers. Now the Pelicans are up against a team that has lost a total of just two games in its last five playoff series.

“We know what we’re capable of doing,” noted Pelicans backup Ian Clark, who played a key role off the bench in the Warriors’ championship run last season. “We like the underdog role. We know we’re going against (the Warriors), but why not us? Why not be able to take down the defending champions and keep moving and keep this sentimental story going?”

For the second series in a row, the Warriors’ Steve Kerr will be up against one of his best friends in the coaching fraternity.

There were few laughs when he got the better of Gregg Popovich’s San Antonio Spurs 4-1 in the first round, with Kerr’s former coach having missed the last three games of the series after the death of his wife, Erin.

Kerr clearly is looking forward to starting fresh against the Pelicans’ Alvin Gentry, who was Kerr’s offensive coordinator during the 2015 championship run.

“He’ll try to throw me for a loop. I’ll try to throw him for a loop,” Kerr said. “Some things will work. Some things won’t work. But we can laugh and joke about how we’re the masterminds behind the success of our teams.”

CINCINNATI BENGALS (7-9)

New faces: LT Cordy Glenn Zay Jones Jersey , RT Bobby Hart, C Billy Price, LB Preston Brown, S Jessie Bates, DE Sam Hubbard.

Key losses: QB AJ McCarron, C Russell Bodine, CB Adam "Pacman" Jones, RB Jeremy Hill, LB Kevin Minter.

Strengths: Playmakers at every spot on offense, especially receiver with A.J. Green, John Ross, Tyler Boyd and Josh Malone. Second-year RB Joe Mixon is dual threat to run or catch, as is veteran Giovani Bernard. QB Andy Dalton coming off subpar year after getting little time to throw. Coordinator Bill Lazor overhauled offense Kevin Hogan Jersey , aiming for more big plays. Deep group of pass rushers led by veteran linemen Carlos Dunlap and Geno Atkins along with second-year LB Carl Lawson anchors reconfigured defense under new coordinator Teryl Austin. Dunlap and Atkins got multiyear extensions before the final preseason game.

Weaknesses: Offensive line was unable to open holes for run game or protect Dalton last season, when Bengals finished last in yards on offense for first time in their history. Overhauled line will be key, and it struggled at times during preseason, especially right side. Bengals counting on Ross and Boyd to have breakout years after disappointing seasons. Also need TE Tyler Eifert to stay healthy coming off back surgery.

Fantasy Player To Watch: Mixon. With Hill gone, second-year back moves into primary role. Bengals plan to use him as receiver more, and he's shown ability to turn short catches into big plays in preseason.

Vegas Says: Super Bowl 105-1. Over/under wins 7.

Expectations: Decision to bring back coach Marvin Lewis after second straight losing season and 0-7 playoff record sent message of more-of-same in Cincinnati, which operates under change-averse owner Mike Brown and hasn't won playoff game since 1990 season, sixth-longest stretch of futility in NFL history. Offense failed to use its big-play threats effectively last two seasons, hampered by awful performance on line. Their fate rests largely upon how overhauled line performs.

With no deadlines to meet and a monthlong summer break coming up, NFL teams are in no hurry to formulate a policy on demonstrations during the national anthem.

One day after league owners mandated that players must stand for the ”Star-Spangled Banner” – they now have the option of remaining in the locker room for the playing of the anthem – few of the 32 teams had done more than preliminary work on the issue.

The NFL gave teams the option of developing their own workplace rules, which many players interpreted as a backhanded way of subjecting them to fines, suspensions or loss of jobs should they carry on with the protests.

For now, other than New York Jets owner Christopher Johnson’s decision to pay any fines doled out by the league without passing punishment to the players Authentic Erik Karlsson Jersey Kids , each franchise’s approach is uncertain.

After all, once mandatory minicamps end in mid-June, teams don’t get together again until training camps open in late July. The opening preseason game – the first time the anthem would be played before an NFL match – is Aug. 2 when Baltimore and Chicago face off in the Hall of Fame game.

”I’m sure it’s something that will be addressed, by the players and by the coaches, collectively,” Lions receiver Golden Tate said Thursday. ”But right now, we don’t play a game until August, and that’s when it’s going to be applicable in football stadiums. So we’ve got time to kind of brainstorm some ideas on how we could stand for justice and what we can do.”

What some teams have done in the past likely indicates how they will handle disciplining players for demonstrations during the anthem – regardless of the intent. Owners Jerry Jones of the Cowboys and Robert McNair of the Texans have been among the staunchest advocates of no exceptions to standing during the anthem.

Others have taken a less stringent stance, emphasizing working together with the players in their communities rather than focusing on how the message about social injustice is being delivered.

”I have always believed it is the responsibility of sports teams to be very proactive in our communities,” says Jeffrey Lurie, owner of the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

”In this great country of ours, there are so many people who are hurting and marginalized, which is why I am proud of our players for continuously working to influence positive change. Their words and actions have demonstrated not only that they have a great deal of respect for our country Tyler Toffoli Jersey , but also that they are committed to finding productive ways to fight social injustice, poverty and other societal issues that are important to all of us.

”We must continue to work together in creative and dynamic ways to make our communities stronger and better, with equal opportunities for all.”

One certain thing: The uncertainty about how each team will deal with players who defy the NFL’s mandate will last for weeks.

Not so for any league personnel such as game officials, sideline crews, et al. They will be disciplined for any violations of the anthem policy, though the exact punishments have not yet been determined by the NFL.

One organization, the National Action Network, will march on league headquarters Friday to ”advocate for players’ right to kneel and call on NFL owners to reverse (the) dangerous decision violating players’ First Amendment rights by imposing fines for not standing during the national anthem.”

Such protests could become more prevalent if teams decide to strongly discipline players who demonstrate during the anthem. But some franchises aren’t sure they need their own policy. Or if that is even the proper description.

The Falcons‘ position is any players on the field will stand, so no need to make plans for any other outcome.

Team spokesman Brian Cearns suggested it’s too strong to say they have a team policy: ”The word policy sounds like it was mandated. It was discussed as a team and agreed upon as a team,” Cearns said in an email to The Associated Press.

Defensive linemen Dontari Poe and Grady Jarrett knelt during an early season game at Detroit last year.

Coach Dan Quinn said that was a ”one-off” and, sure enough, after that game all players stood together on the sideline, with arms interlocked Corey Linsley Jersey , the remainder of the season.

”Was every player who stood last year against social justice?” Lions guard T.J. Lang tweeted ”Or just the guys who do it this year because there is now a rule? Asking for a friend.”

Buffalo linebacker Lorenzo Alexander doesn’t expect his team ”to do anything.”

”I understand where they’re at. And it’s hard,” Alexander said. ”And I understand that from a business perspective trying to be socially responsible. And people can act like it’s in a vacuum and say you have to pick a side. But it’s not that simple. It’s a very complex situation.

”And so I respect them, because I was a business owner and I understand it. It makes a big impact. I’m in this to grow the business, grow their brand, and us doing this does have an impact, whether we say it or not. That’s what we want, because we’re trying to bring attention to it. But they have to have a foot over here, a foot over here. It’s hard.”

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hope they've solved their kicking woes.

Again.

Free agent Chandler Catanzaro becomes the latest kicker to get an opportunity to stop a seemingly never-ending carousel of potential solutions Womens Tyler Eifert Jersey , finalizing a three-year, $9.75 million contract on Friday.

The Bucs also formally announced the signing of veteran defensive lineman Mitch Unrein, who got a three-year, $10.5 million deal after spending most of the past three seasons with the Chicago Bears.

Catanzaro, meanwhile, has also kicked for the Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets during a four-year career. He's converted 84.4 percent of his field goal attempts. Since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2014, he ranks eighth in the league with 103 made field goals and seventh with 461 points scored.

"I looking forward to taking advantage of the opportunity and just doing what I have the past four years," said Catanzaro, who spent three seasons with the Cardinals for moving to the Jets in 2017. "I think I've proven I belong. I think my career stats say that."

The Bucs have been searching for some stability at the position since 2013. The team has used six different kickers over the past five seasons, including second-round draft pick Roberto Aguayo in 2016 and Nick Folk and Patrick Murray a year ago.

The hope is the strong-legged Catanzaro not only will be dependable on field goals and extra points http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/leighton-vander-esch-jersey , but improve the team's kickoffs as well. The 27-year-old had a 67.2 touchback percentage on kickoffs with the Jets, seventh-best in the NFL.

The fifth-year pro made 25 of 30 field goals and was 29 of 29 on extra points in 2017.

Since Connor Barth handled Tampa Bay's place-kicking duties from 2009 to 2012, the Bucs haven't had a player hold the job for consecutive seasons.

Murray served separate stints in 2014 and 2017, and Barth returned for a second stint in 2015 before general manager Jason Licht surprisingly traded up to select Aguayo in the second round of the 2016 draft.

Folk was signed in free agency last winter to replace an inconsistent Aguayo. He struggled, too, before spending much of last season on injured reserve. Murray returned for his second stint with mixed results, especially on kickoffs.

Catanzaro said he's "definitely aware" of Tampa Bay's kicking woes, but noted: "I wasn't here during that time, so I'm looking forward to doing my thing this season."

"I'm never complacent," he added. "I'm always looking to get better."

Unrein spent four seasons with the Denver Broncos from 2011 to 2014. The following year Daryl Johnston Jersey , he played two games for the San Diego Chargers before being released and signing with the Bears.

In 95 career games, including 24 starts, Unrein has 4 1/2 sacks and one fumble recovery.

The 30-year-old is the second defensive lineman the Bucs have signed in free agency this week, joining former Eagles tackle Beau Allen.

Memphis Grizzlies coach J.B. Bickerstaff believes he can make the franchise competitive immediately with a quick recovery from a 60-loss season.

That’s what his boss expects as well.

”We’re going into it with an optimistic view and we’re planning on success,” Bickerstaff said Wednesday, one day after having the interim tag removed from his title . ”We’re planning on a playoff run. There’s no doubt about it.”

The Grizzlies announced Tuesday that Bickerstaff would remain their head coach after he worked the last 63 games of Memphis’ 2017-18 season on an interim basis. Bickerstaff began the 2017-18 season as an associate head coach on the staff of David Fizdale, who was fired in late November .

Memphis went 15-48 under Bickerstaff and finished the season 22-60 , posting the second-worst record in the NBA and ending a string of seven straight playoff appearances. General manager Chris Wallace said he was encouraged by Bickerstaff’s approach during a season derailed by injuries.

”You learn a great deal about people in adversity, much more than watching them while they’re winning,” Wallace said. ”J.B. was given a very difficult task this year when he took over as interim head coach and guided us through some very choppy waters. He kept the team together through very difficult times.”

Wallace also noted the Grizzlies shouldn’t have similar struggles next season.

Veteran guard Mike Conley should be healthy again after injuries to his left heel and Achilles tendon caused him to play just 12 games this year. Memphis’ poor performance this season also assures the Grizzlies an early pick in the NBA draft to join a nucleus that includes Conley and 33-year-old center Marc Gasol.

”Starting next year Marcus Mariota Jersey Big , we want to get back in the playoffs again and be a relevant team that’s pushing to win the Western Conference and go on,” Wallace said. ”We think we’re well equipped to get back in again. We get Mike Conley healthy. Marc Gasol still has many good years in front of him. We’ve got a number of young players that have come on to develop. We’re going to have a top-five pick. We’re going to be able to use a midlevel exception.

”We’ve got a lot of tools to work with, and a lot of the heavy lifting has already been done.”

Bickerstaff, 39, is happy to have an entire offseason to prepare for his assignment, a luxury he didn’t have in his previous head coaching stints.

He went 37-34 as the Houston Rockets’ interim coach in 2015-16 after Kevin McHale was fired. Then came the interim assignment with Memphis this season. Now he finally gets all the advantages that come with starting a season as a head coach.

”You truly can’t imagine how free and open and clear my mind is now because you have an opportunity to prepare,” said Bickerstaff, the son of former longtime NBA coach Bernie Bickerstaff. ”You truly can’t imagine how free and open and clear my mind is now because you have an opportunity to prepare. In any situation that you’re going into, especially a high-pressure situation, the most important thing you want to do is have a moment to chart out your journey.”

Bickerstaff said Conley and Gasol give the Grizzlies a pair of ”All-Star-caliber bookends” that make Memphis’ roster different from the typical lottery team. Bickerstaff also praised the way forward JaMychal Green has established himself in the NBA and noted the way younger players such as Jarell Martin Eric Kush Jersey , Andrew Harrison and Dillon Brooks developed during a trying season.

He expects Conley to come back with something to prove after an injury-riddled season.

”People have kind of forgotten just how good Mike really is,” Bickerstaff said.

Bickerstaff Bickerstaff hopes the ball-handling abilities of Harrison, MarShon Brooks, Wayne Selden and Chandler Parsons could enable Conley to play off the ball on occasion next season. Parsons has dealt with his own injury issues, as he’s played a total of 70 games in two seasons with Memphis.

”We’d like to put (Conley) in more situations where he’s a secondary ball handler or a secondary playmaker, and the defense has shifted and all 10 eyes defensively aren’t just keyed in on him,” Bickerstaff said.
